Kevin Allas, I'm from Bundjalung tribe in northern New South Wales. This painting here is my Rainbow Serpent Dreaming. As you see the markings in the painting, each marking has a meaning. These markings are river markings, the other ones are pathways, tribal spots, and say for instance this one here that's a Rainbow Serpent that went around and laid all the grass for us, we decided to make basket weaving, and that's how he helped us create basket weaving. And his final last resting spot where he was, which is these parts here is the Great Dividing Range where his final resting spot is. The stories from the old days is; his head is in the Grampians in Victoria at Bungles cave which is forbidden for women to walk through but men can walk through and try and find him. I've always believed my aunties and uncles and grandparents and what stories they tell me so I sort of translate them onto paintings and I go home and live my family life, with the stories I teach my daughters the stories and it helps me go through life.
